  3.     In its brief profile of Israel's new Foreign Minister,
  4. Moshe Arens (WORLD, Jan. 2), TIME stated that when Arens was
  5. Israel's Ambassador to the U.S. in 1982, he "made enemies . .
  6. . by misleading Washington about Israeli intentions in the
  7. conduct of the war" in Lebanon. This accusation is evidently
  8. based on a story TIME published in 1982 and is totally
  9. unfounded. On that occasion, Arens met with TIME's editors and
  10. referred them to State Department officials who had been present
  11. at that time to set the record straight. It is surprising that
  12. this unfounded allegation should crop up again 6 1/2 years
  13. later.
